Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori

This week is Maori language week and Room 14 have been thinking about why it is important to learn Te Reo Maori. Here are some of our ideas.

Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori is important because:
* We can learn more Maori words and we can learn more about Maori culture. Jordan
* We are the only country that speaks Maori and it is an official NZ language. Nathanael
* If people don’t speak Maori the language might die. Charlotte
* We can learn Te Reo Maori and talk to people in Te Reo Maori. Paige
* It is fun to learn new words. Willem
* It is an official language of New Zealand. Matthew
* It is cool. The words are really good. Asher
* We need to know how to speak the language. Ben
* It is good for New Zealand because no other countries speak Te Reo Maori. Aidan
* I can learn Maori words so I can talk in Maori. Hunter
* We get to learn Maori words and we get to speak about the legends. Te Reo Maori is important because we can see the All Blacks do the Haka. Grace
* We get to learn Maori words. Kyah
* If we didn’t know Te Reo Maori the language might not exist. Buster
* It would be sad if the language died. Fin
* We want to learn Maori. Helen likes Te Reo Maori. The Haka is good at the rugby. Kayla
* It is good that we learn Maori language and do Maori art. Payton
* Then you can talk to other people in Te Reo Maori. Elliot

What do you think?

WINTER SENSES POEMS

We are learning to use descriptive language in our writing:
WINTER SENSES POEM

Winter feels like a warm jacket on me tightly.
Winter looks like a girl ice skating on cold ice.
Winter sounds like hot fires crackling in the fireplace.
Winter smells like a hot pie cooking in the oven.
Winter tastes like a little piece of ginger biscuit on a cold day.
